Under this program, prospective immigrants with the skills and experience targeted by the province may receive a Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Certificate, which will allow them to apply for Canadian permanent residence with processing times that are faster than other Canadian immigration classes.
Applications are made under three major streams:
PEI PNP Express Entry
Eligible candidates for the Express Entry pool who are interested in living and working in Prince Edward Island may apply to the PEI PNP Express Entry Stream and may benefit from processing times of six months or less. Only applicants with skills matching the current identified labour needs for the province will be considered.
Labour Impact Category
Under this category, the province accepts applications from individuals who possess the skills and experience that are needed in PEI's labour market. It is divided into two sub-categories:
Skilled Worker Stream
This is a subcategory for individuals, who have been identified or hired by a PEI employer. Eligible applicants will work in a skilled profession and possess relevant experience and at least a post-secondary degree or diploma.
Critical Worker Stream
This sub-category is for workers who have already been hired by a PEI employer, and whose employer would like to sponsor them for permanent residency. Eligible applicants can work in a semi-skilled or unskilled profession.
International Graduate Stream
This sub-category is for recent graduates of recognized Prince Edward Island universities and colleges who have already been hired by a PEI employer as skilled professionals in their field of study.
Business Impact Category
PEI accepts applications under this category from entrepreneurs who wish to invest in and actively manage a PEI business and is divided into three sub-categories:
100% Ownership Stream
This sub-category is for individuals who will be assuming full ownership of their own business in PEI starting a new business or purchasing an existing business in the province.
Partial Ownership Stream
This stream is meant for entrepreneurs who will obtain at least 33.33 percent (one-third) of a PEI business or invest $1,000,000 CAD in the equity of a business.
Work Permit Stream
Under this sub-category, individuals who wish to invest in a PEI business can transition through a work permit prior to receiving the provincial nomination. Applicants are expected to begin working in Canada with their work permit in to facilitate learning about the business in which he or she will be investing.
